An Edgar Allan Poe Affair + PMD

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 15, 2009, 10:06 AM

This is officially my favorite weekend EVER. |D Yesterday I went with my mom to go see An Edgar Allan Poe Affair (We're both die-hard Poe fans). Basically, a certain experimental theater company (that's their name, actually XD) put together 4 of Poe work's: The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado, and The Black Cat. It was a free event that was sponsored by the library they held it in, and it was AWESOME.

The setup went like this: You entered the large room on the third floor and we greeted by the 'Tour Guides'. They were all dressed up and looked amazing. Then, they'd give you a certain color playbill. Tan, Green, or Red. They all had the same information. Everyone sat down and milled about until 2:00 rolled around, and the guy playing Poe (Matt McGee, I believe) tromped up straight between the sofas' arrangement and began to perform. Of course, before the director explained what would happen and how they had to use the space carefully as it was not meant for theater, but that Matt guy had all of my attention. XD His costume was incredible.

He started by giving his life story, but then stopped and started hearing things. He kept telling 'Sissy' to shut up, even though the body on the cushion in the corner was motionless. (She was there WAAAY before anyone arrived and scared the crap outta me. XD). They even had rapping noises and such, and McGee really made it convincing. I could've sworn there was a raven there.

Well, the body in the back was his deceased beloved who became possessed or something. Then she led Poe out behind the back entryway, and from the expression on his face it was obvious something would go down. XD The guides then grouped the people by playbill color and led them through the library. The guy we got put his in his top hat and the SEXIEST CANE AND JACKET EVER. Uuugh I need me one of those. XD

We saw The Tell-Tale Heart in another, much smaller room (the servant actually broke the chair when he flung and almost hit the guy on the end. XD). It was done just as well as The Raven, and kept my attention the whole time. When the guide led us out to take us to the next room downstairs, I turned around to glance at the bookshelves.

The actors were glaring at me. XD It was hilarious. When I turned around again I saw McGee sitting there with a Dr.Seuss book, reading it and looking ecstatic. His 'beloved' looked really annoyed. XD We were then brought to a darker room and we got to see The Cask of Amontillado, which was a bit more amusing. It was less interesting, though; I haven;t read that one yet. XD;; Oh well.

The guide then took us back upstairs to the original room to see The Black Cat. On the way we saw McGee again reading 'Are you My Mom?'. I think I broke a rib laughing so hard. The Black Cat was also amazing, I loved how the husband was so nonchalant about everything. XD He made it very entertaining. They also had a woman with a giant, custom-made stuffed animal play the cat. She played the part very well, and made me crack up again when she jumped between the man and woman when they tried to kiss.

All in all, it was amazing. Really amazing. AMAZINGLY amazing. It was so well done and it was obvious that a lot of thought went into it. I can't believe it was free. The costumes were so realistic, the actors really got into the parts (The guy in The Black Cat accidentally broke the cork on the flask when he threw it to the ground), they really brought Poe's work to life. Definitely worth the long trip to get to the college. XD

Also, I beat PMD on Friday, beat Special Episode 5 yesterday, and cleared Sky Summit this morning. XD I LOVE that game.

Oh, and I got another Beatles shirt. It has head shots of all of them and says, 'LET IT BE'. Its the EXACT SAME SHADES OF PINK AND BLACK as my Abbey Road one, but this one's long-sleeved. XD I COULD have had the white one with the Revolver album cover on it, but the stupid store had to, of course, stock it in every size except mine. :/ Figures. Oh well, I always find one of these things when I go there. XD
